Portable outdoor lighting: how to choose the right lamps for your garden, balcony, patio or poolside.
Summer officially arrived just a few days ago, though honestly, we'd already started enjoying our outdoor spaces long before that. Morning coffee on the balcony, aperitivo or gelato on the patio, a garden dinner stretching late into the night. These are the best moments of the warm season and they deserve the right light.
The good news is that it's never too late to bring them your spaces. Unlike fixed installations or more complex solutions asking for planning and scheduling in advance, free, portable lamps can be chosen and used straight away, with no fuss at all. That's why any moment is the right moment to light up and make the most of your outdoor spaces.
WHERE? Spaces where Kriladesign lamps make all the difference
Let's picture our LED outdoor lighting in every kind of situation, position and exterior space where you might want to use them.
The garden table. A summer dinner with family or friends calls for light that doesn't glare: soft, warm and intimate. A portable table lamp placed at the centre, or two on either side for a more dramatic effect, completely transforms the atmosphere compared to a fixed overhead light. Plus: you can bring it easily if later in the evening you move to another corner of the garden.
The patio and veranda. Hybrid spaces, halfway between indoors and out, enjoyed all year round. This is where our In&Out LED collection truly shines: perfectly at home inside in winter, and just as comfortable on the terrace in summer… no need to buy two separate collections! A smart, stylish and thoroughly practical choice.
The balcony. With the right lighting, even a small balcony becomes a space worth savoring. A table lamp on a low side table, perhaps next to a few plants, turns an urban balcony into a private corner you actually want to spend time in. No cables to thread through the sliding door: the battery does all the work.
The outdoor reading nook. A sun lounger, a good book and the right light, isn’t it the perfect combination for any book lover? Nothing more is needed: an adjustable lamp with warm, dimmable light lets you read outside well after sunset, without disturbing anyone nearby.
The pool and poolside. Pool edges, access steps, water features: these are areas that need functional light at night, but also pleasant light. Our portable (and in some cases rechargeable) outdoor lamps can be placed exactly where needed, with no fixed installation required.
LED technology means low energy consumption, long lifespan and a warm color rendering that turns every corner into an inviting space. And battery charging, where available, eliminates the problem of cables entirely making these lamps truly portable. Move them, change position, take them wherever the moment calls for.
HOW? A few ideas for making the most of your outdoor spaces
It's not just about "putting a lamp on the table." Here are some tips for adding that extra touch of style.
Play with layers of light. The most successful outdoor spaces don't rely on a single light source: they combine low light, accent light, and ambient light. Try pairing a table lamp with some ground-level lights along a pathway or at the edges of a planter. The effect is worlds away from a single central light.
Not all light is equal. Outdoors in summer, warm light (2700–3000K) creates atmosphere. Cool or neutral light on the patio in the evening feels a bit like being in an office, doesn't it? Better to choose warm tones for convivial spaces.
Use lamps as daytime decorative objects. A refined Kriladesign lamp on the garden table or on an outdoor sideboard is a design object even when it's switched off. Don't hide your lighting when you're not using it, leave it on display. It's part of the décor.
Experiment with height. A lamp placed on the floor next to an outdoor armchair, rather than on a surface, creates a completely different effect: more intimate, more contemporary. There's no fixed rule: just observe your space, see how the light falls and let the atmosphere guide you.
Follow the season. In spring, when evenings are still cool, a few warm lights are enough to make the patio enjoyable even with a blanket. In the height of summer, when dining outside becomes a daily ritual, it's worth setting up the space as you would a room: a lamp on the table, accent light in one corner, something decorative along the edges.
WHICH ONE? Some tips for picking the right model
For garden tables and outdoor dining, look for models with diffused light, a compact height and USB charging, so you're not dependent on power sockets.
For patios and verandas, where the lamp will live both inside and out, the In&Out models are the natural choice: designed for outdoor use but with an interior aesthetic that sits beautifully in a living room too.
For small balconies, less is more. A compact lamp, also with a dimmer, taking up minimal physical space but with a strong visual presence.
For evening gatherings and convivial atmospheres, go for dimmable lamps: the ability to lower the light intensity, as the evening unfolds, is one of those details that really makes a difference.
Why us?
Why ask for our advice and choose our products? Because we don't have the capacity for large volumes, but we have the ability to care for every single product we make. Each lamp is the result of meticulous work on materials, technology, functionality and aesthetics. Choosing Kriladesign means having real people to talk to, someone to call and share a project with, or to work through a problem together.
That care shows in the product, and you feel it even more over time: in lamps that last, in support that actually responds, in the quiet satisfaction of having something in your home or your garden, that was made to stay.
